What is stumping in cricket?

Stumping is a method of dismissal in the game of cricket. It occurs when the wicket-keeper removes the bails from the stumps to dismiss a batsman who is out of the crease and not attempting a run.

To effect a stumping, the wicket-keeper must gather the ball and then break the wicket using either the hand or the ball, provided that the ball is held in the hand or glove of the wicket-keeper.

The batsman is deemed out if any part of his body or bat is over the popping crease while the bails are being removed by the wicket-keeper.

Stumping is an important skill required of wicket-keepers in cricket as it is another way in which a batsman can be dismissed. It requires quick reflexes, good anticipation, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
